This true-color image offers a natural color rendition of what the Great Red Spot and surrounding areas would look like to human eyes from Juno's position. Icy Europa looks very bright compared to Jupiter, mainly because it's silhouetted against a region not far from Jupiter's terminator. This enhanced color view of Jupiter’s cloud tops was processed by citizen scientist Bjorn Jonsson using data from the JunoCam instrument on NASA’s Juno spacecraft. The newly released image was actually captured on Feb. 2 during an earlier flyby and was processed by citizen scientist Bjorn Jonsson using data from Juno's JunoCam instrument. Reprocessed view by Bjorn Jonsson of the Great Red Spot made by Voyager 1 in 1979 reveals an incredible wealth of detail.

Over this period Voyager 1's distance from Jupiter dropped from 58 to 36 million km, so the resolution and sharpness of the frames increases from start to finish. 2010-11-09 17.04.2011: Updated the Images and mosaics section a bit by replacing a Voyager 2 global view of Jupiter with a bigger and significantly improved version. I also added huge Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 mosaics of Jupiter's Great Red Spot.

The image highlights a massive counterclockwise rotating storm that appears as a white oval in the gas giant’s southern hemisphere.
